I've had bad AT&T service at my house since about mid-June. My mom called about it to see what's up, and they said they'd be calling me to troubleshoot the issue. After a few phone calls back and forth, they ended up sending a truck full of super awesome detector gear out to the house to see what kind of signals / interference they got.

Just got another call from them saying that they're upgrading the towers in our area with a lower frequency to travel through more junk, so it'll hopefully get us some better service here.. said they'd be done by Aug. 15, which is awesome because our phone service from Comcast will be cancelled pretty soon thereafter.
Mike called me last night (aug 15) and the call dropped. Then I called my sister tonight and the call dropped again. :( If it's not better by tuesday then I want to keep a house line, since I need to be able to join conference calls if I'm working from home.

If we're keeping a house line then I'm changing my vote to comcast everthing ATW. If cell service improves and we don't need the house line, then I'm voting for 12 meg dl comcast interwebs.
i'm changing both of my votes to "anything but everything ATW"
If you ONLY need a house line, my buddy has been using magic jack for a while and loves it. It's like $20/year for service.

However, I have decided not to b/c I didn't necessarily want a USB phone jack to be running on my main PC. Building a low-power useless PC for <$100 would probably be my choice for this.
bought'd magicjack for $30, including the first year of service. I've heard mixed things about it but $30 seemed reasonable even for something partially reliable. I talked to my mom for about 20 minutes and it was fine.

I'll post our new number to a private thread.
