steve, what was that thing you said where your publication gives you a ??? number that refers to how many times removed you are from some well-published fellow?
In math, it's an Erdos number. I'm a four.
what about medicine? does it still count?
indeed, the Erdos number. I'm soon to be a four (already am if you count conference papers) as well. who would you be try to establish a connection with in medicine?
mine is infinity, and i plan on keeping it that way. you guys are dorks.

(::secret resentment toward the dorks...::)
my dad 2nd author'd his first case report and i'm teasing about his *vast* contributions to academic medicine
has anybody done a case study on kevin bacon?
wikipedia lists roughly 30 people with Erdos-Bacon numbers (sum of Erdos number and degrees separation to kevin bacon). notable inclusions: winnie from the wonder years, natalie portman
i'm not sure what my Bacon number is, but I do know it goes through the karate kid, ralph macchio.
Apocalypse
on the topic of enjoying math, here's a paper (PDF) a guy wrote on what's wrong with today's math education
from the first few pages it seems like a pretty valid argument...i'll have to read the rest when i have time
my favorite part was when he ripped on high school geometry.. i hated that class
yah that was the only math class in high school i didn't like. oh and the teacher hated me.
LOL! i dont know why, but when that PDF opened, and adobe message popped up that said "too many arguments"....
man i'd win math competitions in middle school so i thought i was good at math but then i got to geometry and we started doing proofs and i was like what the hell do you want from me it's right there leave me alone but they kept bothering me until my third time with calc 3 when i was finally like you know what? f this

showed them

(don't click if you don't want to be furious all day)
damn i was like 'what? what could piss me off all day?'

good one.
why don't we listen to each other?
