If you've ever gone back into the older posts on 409, you may have noticed that a large percentage of our links are broken :( especially on the non-mainstream news sites. boo that, says I. humph.

Perhaps this might inspire me to make a localized Internet Archive for 409, and have a spiffy interface so that if you're inserting a link to a news article or whatever, you can tell it to grab a snapshot of the page and save it to our server. How terribly inefficient. If only everyone would keep all of their content online at the original URL in perpetuity (I'm sure i'm guilty of this too, but i've tried to keep it as consistent as possible).
if you want to archive news articles then maybe you could grab and store the html contents of the page since most the text is most likely the interesting part anyways. perhaps you could add a checkbox that would allow the user to specify if they want to store a screenshot too. :O

edit: or a radio button for text, image, or both!
Would it be worth trying to use the Internet Wayback Machine?
that's what i linked to in my post :-P
but could you go back to 1982 and throw a football over a mountain to win a state championship?
