i'm using adobe audition (multitrack recorder) and when i record it records all sounds my computer is making. i.e. i have a click track running and when i record a guitar line it records the click into the guitar line. i've been through all of audition and windows sound settings and haven't found anything obvious. how do i set my computer to only record from the input?
Does your sound card have a separate settings application? It sounds like there's a checkbox checked that needs to be checked. And by checked I mean you need to see to it.
If you were on linux i'd tell you to run alsamixer :-P

Run -> sndvol32
Properties -> Recording -> OK
Make sure you've got Line-In selected or something. Different sound cards have different settings listed, but try changing those around. My sound card has a "What U Hear" setting and it does exactly that, records what you are hearing exactly. Maybe you have the equivalent setting selected.

finally did what i prob should have in the first place. started recording and went through unchecking boxes. it was the Stereo Mix that needed to be muted.
