I know that I stole that title, but I was thinking about the upcoming presidential election and wanted to know what people's opinions were.

Here are the people who have expressed interest:

Dems

  • Hillary Clinton

  • Wesley Clark - Michael's cousin

  • John Edwards

  • John Kerry

  • Evan Bayh

Republicans

  • Rudy Guiliani

  • John McCain

  • Newt Gingrich

  • Duncan Hunter

I am going to start this off by tossing in my early vote for McCain. I don't know why, I have just always liked him. And he was a badass in the Vietnam war.
Hilary: won't win - she's a woman. too early still. plus she scares off all of the evengelicals, who have won the last few elections.

Wesley - cool guy, honest, just not interesting enough.

John Edwards - creepy, looks way to good to be 80 or whatever he is, but i think he's got the best shot of the Dems

Obama (you forgot him, even though he may not run) - excellent candidate, but again, won't win cause he's black : /

Kerry - HAAHAHAHHHAA

Bayh - who?

Guiliani - dangerous man. he's got everybody in the country looking to him like he's daddy after 911, and he doesn't have any major bad publicity, but the fact is he's a ruthless politician who's been amazingly successful in one of the nastiest political shows on earth - NY city.

McCain - always seem honest, and to have good ideas, which creeps me out cause he's a politician, and they are NEVER EVER honest and good ideas are usually self-serving ones in a 'good idea' costume.

Gingrich - won't win a single middle person over.

hunter - who?

Remember the best political site on the net: realclearpolitics.com
I agree with you on Hillary.

Giuliani has been successful in NYC, but he did cheat on his wife.

Keeping with my Libertarianism. They might a few candidates on the ballots in some states.

  • Steve Kubby - grows marijauna inhis home

  • George Phillies

  • Christine Smith - her website looks like I made it, but I like her stance on some of the issues

On Christine's website she describes her interests:

When not working, she enjoys a variety of activities and interests: aerobic and anaerobic (weightlifting) exercise, hiking & backpacking, chess, astronomy, target practice with her 40-caliber semi-automatic handgun, avid reader...

This will make you laugh.

If you go on her personal website, you can see her modeling portfolio. I especially like photo #12.
Yeah, and btw her dad is fscking crazy. I believe that is a man we could approach for advice on The Project. Perhaps we could support her for president, and use our powers unwisely? . . .

Damn looks like Kubby is crazy too. Don't the libertarians have anyone with a grasp on reality? Or can you even be both realistic and Libertarian? le sigh.
George Phillies - perhaps we should throw our support behind him. He is a physics professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

He also supports the end of the internet poker ban.
Back in the day I predicted Frist vs. Clinton. (A few shouts below the cheston comic). But today Frist is saying he isn't running and is going back to Tennesse and doing his doctor thing. I think he would've had a hard time getting out votes since he didn't get much accomplished as senate majority leader. Still, the dude used to do his homework on stray cats when he was in med school. That gets my vote.

Edit: For some reason, google ads wants us to know how to find registered sex offenders...
internet poker ban? There is one? when did i miss this? Anyone care to explain?
House Passes Bill to Restrict Internet Poker: although most people think that they will not be able to enforce it
How awesome would this be?

Edit: man this thread was started a while ago
haha way to resurrect an (almost) dead thread. dude, it's only 34 electoral votes, so it's not that big..oh wait..it is a big deal
Someone explain to me why McCain's plan will help the economy. Pretend like I'm a 9th grader who doesn't understand the US economy at all, bc that's pretty close to where I stand now.

I'm registered as a Democrat, but I think I would have voted for McCain this November if he hadn't picked an incompetent buffoon as his running mate. I know that politicians always talk in circles and rarely give a straight answer to the question, but most of the time they at least bullshit about related topics.

There were several times during the debate when Palin simply changed the topic completely. For example, Biden made several comments about the fact that McCain voted across the board for deregulation, and in his last sentence he mentioned briefly how the America people need a tax break. Palin discussed taxes for a full 2 minutes. Biden pointed out that she still never addressed the topic of deregulation, so the moderator asked her if Palin would like to comment on it. Palin went right back to taxes, claiming that she may not answer the questions the way the Senator or the moderator wants her to...in other words, she's not going to answer questions she doesn't like.

Two other times during the debate the moderator asked Palin if Biden's statements are true, to which the governor responded "No, it's not true," and then proceeded to discuss a different topic since it was such a short answer.

I also like how she said that the "Predator Lenders" are to blame for the subprime mortgage crisis, not the "American People":

Now I'm not saying that Biden was stellar either, but compared to Palin, he's a shoe in. I'm going to vote for Obama-Biden unless someone can convince me otherwise. Hopefully I won't run into any evil Lenders who will trick me into voting for McCain-Palin before the election.
umm VPs don't matter? does that help?
i think this is a very future oriented election and it's a decision between Obama or Palin for who will lead, McCain and Biden are fairly inconsequential

a lot of people like Palin a lot, it wasn't because of Biden that the debate was the second most watched debate evar
Didn't you watch season 6 of 24, the VP does matter! :O

Lets say, hypothetically, that it's impossible for the president to become incapacitated during his presidential term. Whether through natural causes like a heart attack or choking on a peanut, or through assassination, or through accidents, like car accidents or quail hunting mishaps. Lets eliminate those possibilities and claim that since the P has star power for 4 years, the VP effectively has no political influence. Given those assumptions, what evidence can you guys provide that would allow me to make an inform decision on Nov 4th?

Specifically I'm looking for discussion about the economy, international relations, and energy independence.

I know I can be sarcastic and condescending, but I'm asking for your opinions in earnest. Maybe this isn't the right place to go, but honestly, I'd rather hear these arguments from you guys than some randos on a political forum. You guys may not have a definitive answer, but I'd like to know what you guys think. My knowledge about the areas I listed above is limited, so any insight would be greatly appreciated.

If that's not possible, then you're all chodes and you can suck my right nut.
here are some great informative nonpartisan sites to browse, for one . ..
