actually i call dibs on matt's dongle, online school and all
Dongleberry pwnstar!

Well, how much would it cost us to add another dongle to the plan? If we could do that without having to extend our contract then everybody wins.
i want matt's dongle!

another girl in the building also wants in on the internet sharing, so I wouldn't feel so bad if I backed out. And since the idea is to save money, I think they'd understand where I was coming from. Would the $5 be payed to you, Matt, or to Clear? I'd rather not get roped into a 2 year contract since I don't even know if I'll be in this building or this city for any more than a year.

Also, how do I check the signal coverage in my area? Is there a way to check online? I noticed a Clear internet thingy in the window of my building in someone else's apartment, so maybe there's decent coverage?...
The $5 would be going to me, i'm already paying ~$15 a month for it to sit on my desk and do nothing. So clear wouldn't be getting any more money than they already do.

We're in a 2 year contract which started in Sept. 2009, and once the contract is up I think we might be looking for alternative internet sources (at least so I'm no longer teh one paying the bill for PMC). So the dongle will be available for use at least until September 2011.

I own the dongle (as opposed to renting it from Clear), so when the time comes, if you were to get your own Clear account, you can register that device instead of buying/renting your own. I'd sell it to you for a reasonable price.

However, this may be moot now that Drew has called dongle dibs.

The Comcast 4G is most likely a re-branding of the Clear service. here is a screenshot from their coverage map (green = what you'd be using, yellow = 3G, which is not accessible from the dongle):

boo drew! i'm poor! go get your own dongle!

the coverage looks pretty good in my area...
if you ever wanted to experiment with microcontrollers, TI has a new extremely low cost development kit ($5) with free C/C++ IDE. you can get it direct from TI with free shipping, but the ship date is unknown due to high demand. or you can get it from Newark.com for $5 2-3 day shipping.

you can also order free samples of certain TI components that you may need for your projects (possibly including additional microcontrollers minus the dev board), but their samples site doesn't seem to be working at the moment.

the microcontroller is so low power, that it can run off 3 grapes:
any final decision on the dongle?

how do you guys feel about Qwest internet? Someone just threw that one into the mix, but I don't know anything about it....
i remember one of their early commercials .. it was a guy checking in to a hotel in the middle of nowhere, and he asked at the front desk what movies they had available for rent, and the bored young attractive chick working the desk said something to the effect of "How about.. every movie, ever made ..

ok edit: found the commercial on youtube.

anyway I don't know anything about their service, just that commercial.

Drew, I'll honor your dongle dibs if you want it because I think you actually mentioned something about it weeks (months?) ago. Otherwise I'll ship it out to warshington.
yeah i just checked and a significant portion of zone 1 is covered, and i'll be doing a significant amount of my school work in zone 1 trying to rise above it all, it's going to be a great pick-myself-up-by-the-bootstraps story, and it's what makes america great
Wait, Drew which degree are you getting online? Go 'Merica
georgia webmba via georgia southern, i will never actually have to go to the campus, but i plan on making a trip down there only to get a student ID made, that's right...4 movie tavern discounts
don't you still have you GT or GSU ID?
I am glad that you decided to pick another fine Georgia public institution after GT, Clayton State, and GSU.
Yes, and a Clayton state ID, so when I get my Georgia southern id and I ask for four student tickets, they'll be like I need to see four Ids and I'll be like ok here
How many Georgia public colleges are there, let's say that offer 4 year degrees at least, maybe I could attend them all
It's just like Pokemon!
man, when did DVD burners get so cheap? I guess I didn't pay that much more for mine a few years ago.
Apparently the burners are getting cheaper to make as it's cheaper and easier to make the large, pure, synthetic crystals they use in the lasers. (laser ignorant, just read an article ieee xplore this week).
so i FINALLY got internet set up this morning. we went with comcast (not my choice), and (BIG SURPRISE) i had a problem almost immediately. they went ahead and connected the network to my netbook, so that's working fine, but when i tried to connect my other laptop, it wouldn't. i picked the right network, put in the password i gave them, it popped up the box that says "connecting to wireless network", and then said "Connected!", but then the network says "not connected". How do I fix it? i thought at first that they maybe put in the password wrong, but my computer woulda told me that instead of pretending to connecting and then not doing it. i'm gonna try restarting my computer cuz what the hell else do i know how to do?

edit: alright the restarting thing seemed to work. now i can continue on in my computer illiteracy.

anybody know how to make it so pasting some text always matches the destination formatting rather than the source? so annoying...
