someone figure out if a passively multiplayer online game would be fun, i'll check later
So Half-Life 2 I was like "hey sweet i can throw things and blow stuff up", HL2: Episode 1I was like "oh sweet more levels, story, and bad guys to kill", but HL2: Episode 2 was like . It's one of those things that remind you why you do things, like why I play video games. So if you haven't played through all of them, do it because episode 2 pwns pretty hard.
i'm telling you, it's story-telling of the highest caliber

So, this past weekend I went over to my buddy's house and he was playing this. He was saying, man, we gotta play this coop. The best description of this game, from my perspective, was Halo mixed with Rainbow Six party type game -- focusing on teamwork of 2 instead of coasting through missions using your party to do all the dirty work. Or, in Halo's case, just being more enemies without any focus really on teamwork (well, the vehicles attempts this).
We loaded up the coop split screen mission mode. A key aspect of this game is teamwork. Modding your weapons allows you to control the aggro level of each weapon. In the middle of a fight, there is a meter that shows the aggro level of each player. If your aggro meter maxes out, the other player becomes almost invisible to the enemy, until that guy fires. A typical scenario rocks out like this:
Player 1 is chillin behind a wall firing at the enemies while Player 2 sneaks around to flank the guys (this is done by a combo of crouch walking and sliding/diving). Player 1 continuously fires rounds, alerting the enemies to his location. Player 2 then comes around the back and one-pop's the guys from behind unnoticed.
The graphics are phenomenal. There is just something special while crouching behind a utility truck and seeing a rocket fly through the air and collide with an enormous explosion on the wall that your partner is hiding behind.
EDIT: So, I figured i'd make this post a little longer.
One awesome part of the game is the partner interactions. After one of the cinematics, you are back-to-back with each other and the gameplay is in slow-mo. While you and your partner spin around back-to-back you are hitting guys and it is incredibly realistic watching the guys flip backwards as you dot-the-eyes or take out a knee-cap.
Lots of blood, lots of cussing.
Phenomenal.
