speaking of new computers, I just got my laptop for work. Dell Precision M4400: Intel Core 2 Extreme quad core, 4 gb of ram, and 200gb hd.
pretty sure it's partly mine to use whenever i want
damn you got me
beware of

they took out my year old computer this past weekend. the replacement motherboard uses all solid capacitors though, so never again! the reason they fail is pretty amusing though
In addition to increasing and improving storage capacity, i'm looking to upgrade my current gpu.

any suggestions?

as they say, go big or go home.
a follow up to the "nubbin," previously the smallest wireless N adapter..
looks like it's down to an Acer AspireRevo 3610 (big difference between the 3600 and the 36310) and the ASRock ION box. I think the Revo will probably win out because of the integrated Wireless (N even!) and the VESA mount cool factor.
new box finally shipped. it's a thanksgiving miracle!
yay!

anyone want to buy best buy gift cards?  I'm going to build a new computer but will most likely buy the parts from newegg, so I want to trade my cards for cash. I have 4 $100 cards and 1 $25 card!

what happened to building a new computer with extended benefits? or have you exhausted those funds for this year?

Well, I plan on using both.  I have ~$1500 left from EB, so I'll use that for my MB, CPU, PSU, and RAM.  For all of those parts my newegg cart is just over 850, so I'll might add a monitor to the list, although I don't really need one.  I can't use EB for the GPU, so I was planning on using the money from the gift cards to buy that, specifically the eVGA GTX 570.

bestbuy sells that card but none made by eVGA.  I don't have a preference for the manufacturer in general, but i've read reviews about the eVGA overclocked card, so I wanted to go with that.  Oh well, if I can't find someone to trade i'll just get one from best buy I suppose.

I'm on a strict spending moratorium until after April 3, which is when the last interest-free payment on the fridge is due. otherwise I'd snap them up faster than you could say "speaker bracket"

edit: although it seems like i can find them much cheaper elsewhere online.. so I'm not really sure what I'd want to buy at bestbuy right now :[

New Rig:

CPU, PSU and RAM came in today, MB and GPU will get here tomorrow.  I plan on getting a second 570 when the price comes down, perhaps next year.  GAME ON! :D

thank you tax return.

I needed a new puter of anykind, so I went with net-top (lapbook?) for now and someday get a desktop again. I liked the look of the fusion platform and the non-intel price for discrete graphics.

A net-top isn't a laptop, it's a little desktop. What you have definitely has either "lap" or "book" in the name, so I think the second name you assigned is more appropriate ;)

Looks like fun, maybe I'll get myself a new computer someday. Incidentally I wiped my root partition last night and did a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10... mmm

My seven-year-old laptop just finally pooped out, I need to get something myself.
