Google could find a use for a nuclear engineer, right?
Dude they have little kids you can play with?
Soooo anyway.. I got an email from a google recruiter on thursday :)
annnnnddd?
I emailed the guy back, and I suspect I'll hear from him sometime tomorrow. The Googleplex is in Mountain View, Calif., but they've also got some operations in Atlanta :-D
The guy said he's gunna talk to a few teams at various locations (inc. ATL, Mntn View, and others) to see if anyone thinks they would be a good fit for me. He said that the ATL was probably a long shot b/c they're usually pretty specific in their job descriptions, and the stuff they work on doesn't really match my background.

Anyhoo, I'll keep you guys posted on any goings on :)
are you unhappy in melbourne?
Well I just changed projects here, but if that hadn't happened, then I probably would have been checking around to see what else was out there. Now that I'm on my new projects, I'm not as anxious to find something else to do.. however, it is Google, and I think it'd be pretty sweet to work for them. I might as well see if they come up with anything that I would find interesting; if nothing else, it gives me a better idea of my marketability, which can be used as leverage in my current job :)

I'm not sure how good at that I would be.. "hay guys, company XYZ is offering $ABC and a Swedish massage .. what're you going to do to keep me here?"
they might be intimidated by listing your competing salary in hex, good strat. ;-)
c'mon, michael. everybody knows that if you're going to type a number in hex, it'd look like $0xABC :-P

Ok so I got an email back from the dood, and he CC'ed the woman in charge of this kind of stuff in the ATL. So I guess i'm now waiting to hear from her.

If there's any of you 409'ers that might wanna work at Google, the guy said I should forward his contact info to any interested colleagues. So.. lemme know.
They expanded into the nuclear arena yet?
they do have some pretty massive data centers as far as energy consumption is concerned.. it might be worth a shot ;-D
how about aircraft entertainment systems?
law enforcement/guitars?
malpractice?
here comes the energy, also, minus 30 cool points for having algore as an adviser
old news... my company did that in january!
*update*

got a pre-interview screening questionnaire with some pretty cool questions in it. it's their low-pressure, think-your-answers-through alternative to interviews :-D

also, here's where their office is: Google Atlanta
