Is it just me, or has gMail been adding features out the wazoo lately? latest one: check your email from joor phone.. which isn't all that spectacular, but it's just one of many new ones.

just read thru the gmail tips, and i got to the blackbelt section before i saw something i didnt know about:
Filter your email with personalized email addresses.
You actually get more address variations than just "yourusername@gmail.com," all of which get delivered to you. You can put a plus ("+") sign and any combination of words or numbers after your name, like changing hikingfan@gmail.com to hikingfan+mailinglists@gmail.com or hikingfan+junk@gmail.com. Then you can easily add a filter to label and/or archive messages sent to the variations.

also you cats might already know, but you can add periods all through your gmail address and it'll still arrive in your inbox

Dang it, all my newsblogs are reporting that gmail updated their contacts interface, but I'm still seeing the old and busted one. I guess they're rolling it out?
